In 2007 the WHRC embargoed the rail line from Hantsport to the west of the New Minas industrial park. The rail line had quickly deteriorated as a result of deferred maintenance, and as a result, all freight operations ceased. The 2008-2009 economic downturn negatively impacted gypsum exports from Hantsport and resulted in the permanent closure of Fundy Gypsum and the Hantsport loading facility. WHRC rail operations ceased in November 2011, and in 2013 the Windsor Junction track control was returned to the Canadian National Railway (CN). CN advertised the line for disposal.

Progress on the model railroad (WGR) stalled in 2010 as competing projects took priority. The intent had been to model the WGR after the prototype WHRC, but the railroad ceasing operations, and limited online information, the project faded. Much like the WHRC, the WGR was abandoned. At the time of this post, the WGR hangs on a basement wall gathering dust.
