The Red Arcade was constructed using the leftover pieces from The Gate construction project – built using Outland Models Modern City Building Curved Top Shopping Centre and plain sheet styrene. I imagined that the arcade was once a standard apartment complex with first-story shops that had since been converted into an arcade. “Arcade” is a code for all forms of entertainment that the authorities need not scrutinize. For this project, I experimented with building galvanized ductwork using wooden dowels as well as designing small signs and billboards. Likewise, I wanted to start adding some simple lighting effects to the structure. I purchased some 12V LEDs that can connect to a leftover power supply. I painted false windows on the back of the building if anyone wanted to view the street behind the structure.
