Building a Dystopian Chicago ‘L’ Line Diorama in N Scale

I’m fascinated with the Chicago ‘L’, and I’ve been thinking about adding an elevated rail line to the dystopian city. There are two challenges: the city was put together aesthetically and not functionally, so the roads aren’t prototypically sized and are more decorative than functional. Secondly, I’m not aware of commercially available kits to recreate the structural piers and girders. There are many bridge options, but the cost makes the project costly. I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could quickly and cheaply create a good-looking alternative using some essential 3D printed parts and stir sticks and dowels. I also wanted to experiment with two paint schemes – painted metal and a rust-worn structure. Overall, I’m pleased with the results, and if I can figure out a way to add a short urban line within my city, I’ll do it.

Thanks for watching.
