Modelling Rubble & Dead Groundcover Using Grout, Jute Twine, and Sand.

The retaining walls and riverbed were smoothed with drywall compound. Each of the scrub areas was primed with a tan basecoat and textured with finely sanded grout before sealing with diluted white glue. Once dry, the tan basecoat was reapplied and then sprinkled/dabbed with jute twine. (The twine had been cut into small lengths and blitzed in a coffee grinder). While the paint was still wet, fine sand and stones were sifted on top of it before applying a random sprinkling of coarse ground foam. The final step was to seal everything in place with ‘wet’ water and diluted white glue.
