Sinkhole City – Creating an Apocalyptic City Block with 3D Printed Building Facades

Sinkhole City was an idea in search of a project. I wanted to design 3D printed building facades and some ‘snap-fit’ windows as a test for later projects. I’ve worked a lot with Outland Model’s kits, and I have no complaints. However, the windows are moulded into the walls, requiring a great deal of masking and painting. I have 3D-printed windows for styrene walls in the past, and that has worked well, but I hadn’t designed walls and windows that were perfectly sized for one another. I decided to make some building flats, and I needed a diorama to go with it! Originally I had planned to use this diorama as an entry for an Instagram-hosted building challenge, but I ran at a time, so here we are!

In addition to this, I am grateful for the positive support I’ve gotten, and I’ve had several inquiries about sharing some of my 3D files. I’m happy to announce that I have created a myminifactory.com creator account, and I have uploaded STL files for each building for people to use, rework, and distribute as they see fit.

You can download the files here: https://www.myminifactory.com/users/nscaledystopia Thanks for watching – I’m looking forward to the next project!
